This is awful blog news - we had to put our dog Hattie to sleep yesterday. It turned out that she had a big cancerous tumor in her pelvis, and it had quickly progressed to the point that her bladder wouldn't work anymore and surgery wasn't going to help. We're so sad - Hattie was a great dog!! We had her for a little over 5 years - she came from Carolina Basset Rescue - their website is www.cbhr.com. Another family had actually abandoned her in Columbia and she ended up in the county shelter before CBHR picked her up and placed her with a foster family.
She was the perfect dog for us - very laid back, super sweet, didn't bother the cat or the kid. She had a great time with us on our vacation a few weeks back - we're so thankful that we took her with us, because she enjoyed every minute of it, including standing in the Oconaluftee River and roaming around the farm at the GSMNP. She got so many pets from strangers - she had a real perk in her step that day, even though she was already sick. Oh, and the neighborhood kids LOVED "Pattie." (They never got that it was Hattie not Pattie - oh well) We miss her so much!

That is horrible news! I'm so sorry!! We were all so upset when we had to put Mavy down. Even Me-Ma and De-Da grieved that dog. From one Doggy mommy to another, hang in there!
Yes, my condolences as well. Hattie looked like a great dog who had a good life. I'm also glad she got one last vacation with you guys. What a cutie!
